HISTORY

The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year, and is now in its second generation. The first generation Compass and Patriot, its rebadged variant, were among Jeep’s first crossover SUVs. The second-generation Compass debuted in September 2016 in Brazil and at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016, sharing a modified platform with the Renegade.

For the 2021 model year, Jeep discontinues the six-speed manual transmission, shuffles some features for the Compass’ Limited and Trailhawk trims, and introduces the 80th Anniversary Edition.

Here are the key changes for the Jeep Compass over the last few years:

2017: fully redesigned with updated interior, improved fuel economy, and more horsepower

2018: no major changes

2019: gained standard 7-inch touch screen and available adaptive cruise control; Upland limited edition joined lineup; High Altitude appearance package added to options list

2020: base trim gained available advanced safety features

2021: manual transmission discontinued; 80th Anniversary Edition debuts

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE JEEP COMPASS

Four years prior to the introduction of the production Jeep Compass, a concept vehicle with the same name had its world premiere in Detroit at the 2002 North American International Auto Show. It featured a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.

The 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not available in the new Compass for 2007, though the production model Compass kept the concept car’s styling cues and some of its features. The production model Compass also had four doors instead of the two doors on the concept car.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2021 Jeep Compass the highest rating of Good in all six crash tests. The Compass received the lowest rating of Poor for how well its standard headlights illuminate the road ahead. Models with optional upgraded headlights received the second-lowest rating of Marginal for forward visibility.

The IIHS uses a different scale for grading collision avoidance features. The Compass earned the highest rating of Superior for its optional vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2021 Compass an overall safety rating of four out of five stars. The Compass received five stars in the side crash test, four stars in the frontal crash test, and three stars in the rollover test.

DESIGN

  • Compass Cargo Space

The Compass has 27.2 cubic feet of cargo room behind its rear seats. Folding down the rear seats expands the cargo area to 59.8 cubic feet. That’s below average for a compact SUV.

  • How Many People Does the Compass Seat?

The Compass has adult-friendly seating in both rows, with room for up to five people. The seats are fairly supportive, but the cushions are on the firm side. Visibility out the front of the vehicle is good, but rear visibility is hindered by chunky roof pillars. The available panoramic sunroof may cut into headroom for taller folks.

  • Compass and Child Car Seats

There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

  • Compass Interior Quality

The standard Compass’ handsome cabin is well built, but the quality of its materials is just OK. You can spend more to add nicer cabin materials like leather upholstery.

  • Compass Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

Jeep’s Uconnect infotainment system is known for being user-friendly. Crisp graphics make it easy to see the touch screen, which is responsive and features well-arranged menus. You’ll also find physical controls for audio and climate functions, which is a welcome addition for the driver. Last but not least, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.

Standard infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, six speakers, voice recognition, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto

Available infotainment features: an 8.4-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, navigation, and HD Radio

Additional standard features: remote keyless entry

Other available features: remote start and a panoramic sunroof.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR JEEP CLEAN?

It’s important to keep your Jeep clean. Not only do you want a Jeep that performs beyond expectations, but you also want a Jeep with the upmost tidiness and looks as brand new as when you purchased it from the dealership. No matter if it’s a Cherokee or a Challenger, please treat your Jeep vehicle like you would any other valuable possession.

Invest in Air Fresheners

A part of a Jeep’s tidiness is its smell. It’s best to maintain that new car smell and avoid any potential mustiness.

Don’t Eat in the Car

Keep eating in your Jeep to a minimum. Food will inevitably result in tiny crumbs that seep into the smallest crevices of your Jeep and take forever to get out.

Keep a Trash Bag in the Car

Trash will build up in your Jeep vehicle faster than you think. It’ll look like you just bought it from a Jeep dealership one moment to having it replicate a dumpster on wheels the next.

To avoid this problem, it’s smart to carry a trash bag in the car with you.

Go to the Car Wash

It’s important to bring your Jeep to your local carwash on a regular basis. Dirt, dust, and other filth can build up on your Jeep’s exterior if not properly treated.

Of course, don’t hesitate to ask the staff at our Jeep dealership about any cleanliness issues. You deserve a clean Jeep, so come on down to Miami Lakes Jeep and ask any questions!
